2 Wars, 8 Soldiers, 1 Mission……… To Inspire a Nation
We are proud to have been invited by Captain Martin Hewitt and Fieri Leadership in 2013 to join forces and set up the Fieri Frontline Project. Frontline has given Morgan James the privilege of working with some of our forces' finest. These wounded ex-servicemen no longer have army careers because of their injuries. They have all been either blown up, burnt or shot during recent wars and have fought their way back from the brink. Not only that, but since being injured they have:
- Completed a record breaking walk to the North Pole (as seen on BBC TV’s Harry’s Artic Heroes)
- Attempted Everest
- Successfully climbed some of the world’s toughest mountains
- Broken world and Olympic records in a wide range of sports from cycling to ultra-marathons, downhill skiing and water skiing
- Competed in some of the world's most extreme Ultra events including the Dakar Rally
Martin attended one of the Morgan James ‘Engaging Presentations’ Master-classes in early 2012, just before his attempt on Everest. Leading the first team of wounded forces personnel to the summit, he knew his expedition would generate media interest and wanted to be able to tell the wider story of his challenge and what was happening to wounded servicemen after they were medically discharged. With a Gatling gun delivery, a strong Scouse accent, and a lifetime of shared army acronyms, we set about working with him to really help him connect with and be understood by any audience and deliver some truly inspirational stories.
Soon after his return from Everest, I took a call from him. He had gathered a handpicked group of wounded ex-servicemen whose inspirational stories of dare doing and endeavour since their discharge by far over-shadowed the horror of their injuries. His question was, could we help them to deliver those stories to:
- Inspire other men and women returning from the frontline of war with life changing injuries?
- Help leaders across the UK to learn from their lessons of self-motivation and overcoming adversity?
- Help the boys (for it is mostly men who suffer life-changing injuries in the service of their country) to craft and deliver professional speeches and engaging Q&A sessions so that they could earn an income from speaking to supplement their pensions and fund their ambitions as world renowned athletes?
Fieri Frontline Events is born
The answer on all fronts was a resounding yes!
Pulling together a fantastic team which included a range of clients, The Faculty of Business and Law at Manchester Business School, Top Venues, Paul Worpole Photography and Double Yolk Media to ensure that we delivered a professional event at zero costs to the boys (therefore maximising profit for the speakers), Morgan James completed the training and staged the first Frontline event in front of a packed business audience at Lancashire County Cricket Ground in March 2013.
Our speakers were fantastic, hugely engaging, funny (not always intentionally!), poignant and an inspiration to all. The feedback has been stunning. Michael Walsh, Director of Anglo Recycling (and one of the event sponsors) said:
“I have been to so many sportsmen’s dinners and speaker events, but nothing lives up to this. The most inspiring event I have ever attended.”
The intention is to ensure that service personnel who have sustained life threatening injuries whilst on active duty are able to achieve their potential, inspire others to achieve their dreams and share key life lessons along the way.
